Take care of yourself, embrace any help that is offered and lastly, my Grandmother’s advice to me – Children are life renewing, slow down and enjoy every moment.

My collector and mom of four, Sara, says the greatest lesson motherhood has taught her is to have an endless supply of patience. Patience, patience, patience. She reminds herself all the time that everything is just a phase that will pass. (If you read my post from a few weeks ago, my collector Lindsey says the same thing.)

She’s also learned there’s is no ailment that can’t be cured by the power of a hug and a bandaid (with her child’s favorite character on it:).

Sara has been my collector for many years. I’ve painted all four of her kids, from oldest daughter Meghana to baby Ari. It’s an honor that they’ve loved my work enough to commission portraits of all their kids. Each year I've seen how their children have grown and changed.

I met Sara through her friend Bethany, whose kids I painted. She loved my work and wanted to commission a portrait of Meghana. At the time she was five, and man, was she a cutie. Sweet, soft-spoken and intelligent, with this long, luscious hair and beautiful olive skin. I captured her by the pond behind her house, barefoot holding her pink sandals.

The next portrait was of Sai, the “man” of the house. He loves all things sports, from the Grizzlies to Alabama football.

Dhilan, the third oldest, follows in his brothers footsteps. His pictures were taken at the family’s new home, by the beautiful columns flanking the front steps. Dhilan goes to PDS with his brothers, and likes seeing them at school. He’s smart like his siblings, and is of course a huge sports fan.

And then there’s Ari. Sweet little Ari. He was so talkative, showing me the neat things in his room and asking me if I could stay and play. I did a charcoal portrait and an oil portrait of him.

As a mom to these four young kids, Sara certainly has her hands full. She’s learned a lot, but perhaps the best piece of advice she’d give to a mom-to-be is to “take care of yourself, embrace any help that is offered and lastly, my Grandmother's advice to me – children are life renewing, slow down and enjoy every moment."

Like a lot of moms I talk to, Sara knows that childhood passes so quickly. You really have to savor every moment with your kids. It’s so special for to help moms savor those fleeting moments, and show their kids how special and loved they are.

Show your child you love them through a portrait. Book a phone consultation with Kate to reserve your spot.
