Every mom I’ve talked to expresses this same fear – that they might miss something in their child’s life. With the craziness of life and all there is to think about, it can be really hard to be in the moment and just enjoy your kids.
Every mom wants to hold on and make each moment with their kids last.
I once talked to a mom who I liked and wanted to work with, but was on the fence about commissioning a portrait of her daughter. I didn’t hear from her for a while, and then out of the blue I got a call from her telling me she was sending me a check to book the commission.
I asked her what made her change her mind. She said she was at a friend’s house who had portraits done of her kids. Her friend expressed how relieved she was that she had them done when the kids were young, because now they're all grown up and out of the house.
That night, my collector literally woke up in a panic because she was worried she might regret not getting her daughter's portraits. She was worried she's miss out on a really special time in her life. So she called me the next day.
Childhood slips away so quickly.
Moms tell me that they watch their children’s features change every day. Their blond curls start to fade, their skin looses it’s gorgeous softness and brightness, their cheeks that cute pudginess. Before you know it, they’re driving, going on dates, and applying for college.
You only have a small window of time when they are really yours. The day is coming when they will want to be independent and won’t need mom as much any more.
